At-home euthanasia
At a time when you most need help and support, our experienced and compassionate vets provide end-of-life care in the secure and loving environment of your own home. From the very first moment you speak to us, we ensure that your pet and family are treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

When is the ‘right time’?
When your pet’s quality of life is suffering due to age or illness, an at-home euthanasia may be something you should consider. A sympathetic conversation with us will provide you with support and information to help guide you through this difficult decision, helping to ensure it is not too soon and, even more importantly, not too late.
Ultimately, you know your pet best. You may experience feelings of guilt for considering euthanasia, however, a gentle at-home euthanasia can be considered as a final act of love for your beloved companion.
A gentle euthanasia
Generally, a gentle euthanasia takes about 45 minutes, but as you have control of the timetable, it may be more or less. Your vet will spend time listening to you describe your pet’s situation; they will also take time to put your pet at ease.
Depending upon your pet’s health and condition, a euthanasia will almost always start with a sedation to make your pet calm and relaxed. When your pet is sedated, the vet will continue with the gentle euthanasia.
Where and when?
That is your choice. We will find a mutually convenient time and location — perhaps indoors in a favourite room, on a sofa, lovingly in your arms or even in your garden, if that feels right for you. Our Care Coordinators are available to help and advise you.
Who should be there?
This is a personal decision and depends on who your pet is comfortable with. We suggest that it is often helpful for children and other pets to see that their beloved companion passes gently and peacefully. We can discuss this with you when you call.
Who comes to your home?
All our vets are qualified, experienced and compassionate veterinary surgeons. They have all been through our end-of-life training programme to ensure that your special family member is treated with dignity and respect in the autumn of their life.
Choice of cremation
If you wish to arrange a cremation, we can help coordinate the vet and crematorium. This is a very personal decision that does not need to be rushed, but if you require any help or assistance, we would be pleased to support you.
